Fishing is a nice activity that provides a quiet and peaceful experience. If you're a fan of fishing, we've got good news for you! Terraria is a game that values adventures and combat. Fishing plays a huge role in your Terraria experience. Casting your line in your favorite spots will provide you with biome-specific loot that can be turned in for quests or used for crafting potions and equipment. If you're wondering what different places you can fish in, then read on! Here are our Top 10 Terraria best fishing spots that are great!
10. Forest Biome
The vanilla experience
The very first biome that most players ever fish in would almost always be the Forest lakes on the Surface. While you can fish at any point in the game, you're already able to start fishing as soon as you cut down your first tree. The Forest is considered the most basic biome in that it's not a 'specific' biome when it comes to Terraria. This fishing spot contains the most basic fish like the Bass, Salmon, and more! The only crates that spawn here are the basic Wooden/Pearlwood, Iron/Mythril, and Golden/Titanium.
What makes it awesome:
- It's the easiest fishing spot to get to as there are naturally spawning lakes found in all Forest biomes that are big enough to fish in.

9. Jungle Biome
Beware of parasites!
Another fishing spot to get to would be in the Jungle Biome. This fishing spot is home to fishes such as the Neon Tetra which can be cooked, and the Double Cod and Variegated Lardfish which are ingredients for potion-making. This is also the only place where you can get Jungle and Bramble crates that contain loot from Ivy Chests. This makes it possible to get weapons like the Boomstick if they weren't generated in your world.
What makes it awesome:
- Has ingredients for the Ammo Reservation potion and the Summoning Potion
- Fishing early in this biome can reward you with powerful equipment without having to dive into danger

8. Snow Biome
Who's up for some ice fishing?
Ice fishing is a very popular way of fishing that's popular in colder regions. In Terraria, however, it's the only place to get the Atlantic Cod and Frost Minnow, the latter being a potion-crafting ingredient. Although lacking in crafting resources, the Snow fishing spot is great for getting powerful equipment such as the Snowball Cannon and Flurry Boots. You can get these equipment from Frozen and Boreal Crates found specifically in this biome
What makes it awesome:
- Has ingredients for Warmth Potion
- Fishing early in this biome can reward you with powerful equipment that can carry you to the end of pre-hardmode

7. Evil Biome
No, this isn't blood fishing...
Although the Evil (Corruption/Crimson) biomes are scary early-game, they do have their perks when it comes to fishing. The Corruption gives you access to the Ebonkoi while the Crimson gives you the Hemopiranha and the Crimson Tigerfish. They also provide you with biome-specific Corrupt/Defiled and Crimson/Hematic crates that give out the items you can get from smashing Shadow Orbs and Crimson Hearts.
What makes it awesome:
- Ebonkoi (Corruption) is used to make Wrath potions
- Hemopiranha (Crimson) is used to make Rage potions
- Crimson Tigerfish (Crimson) is used to make Heartreach potions

6. Dungeon Biome
Is there even fish in this place?
The Dungeon is a great place to get equipment. While they do not provide any biome-specific fish, they have a wide array of weapons that you can get from Dungeon and Stockade crates. The Golden Lock Box that you can get from these crates is filled with equipment that you can generally find in locked Dungeon chests. This means that you're still able to get the Cobalt Shield, Muramasa, and the Handgun even if your world did not generate them.
What makes it awesome:
- Fishing in the Dungeon biome is the only way to get Dungeon-specific loot that was not generated in your world
- On the 05162020 seed, this is a great way to get Dungeon equipment before defeating Skeletron

5. Desert / Oasis Biome
Staying cool by a body of water
The Desert Biome, or more specifically the Desert Oasis, is the only place to get Flounder and Rock Lobsters. While these fish are only crafted into food buffs, they are both 'medium improvement'-tier and can be fished with extreme ease. This fishing spot also has the Oasis and Mirage Crates that contain loot from Desert chests.
What makes it awesome:
- Great source of the Plenty Satisfied buff through the Sashimi and Lobster Tail food buffs
- It's the only place where you can get the Scarab Fishing Rod

4. Sky Biome
Okay, now we're just defying the laws of physics
Terraria world generation guarantees that you'll always have at least one Sky Lake to fish in. This lake is the only place where you can get the Damselfish, which is a very rare potion ingredient. The Sky Lakes also provides a chance of catching the Sky and Azure crates which give you loot that is normally found in Skyware chests.
What makes it awesome:
- It's highly possible to have only one Sky house spawn in, making it impossible to get all three different Sky equipment
- Fishing in Sky Lakes allows you to get all of the equipment if they didn't spawn in your world.

3. The Underworld
First the sky, now you're fishing in lava?!
The Underworld does not have any biome-specific fish, but there are fish that only appear in lava. One of the primary reasons why you should fish in the Underworld is because of the difficulty of making a lava lake big enough on the surface. The biggest bonus you can get from this fishing spot is the amount of unique loot you can get from the Obsidian and Hellstone crates. These include unique pets, mounts, decorative plants, and the unique Hanging Pot.
What makes it awesome:
- If you want to use Hanging Pots instead of planter boxes for your potion brewing ingredients, the only place you can get them is here.
- The crates contain valuable loot like the Heartreach potion. This is especially great in Corruption worlds where the Crimson Tigerfish is unavailable

2. Hallowed Biome
Fishing for magic crystals!
The Hallowed Biome is home to the Chaos Fish, Princess Fish, and Prismite. Fishing in this biome also gives you a chance to get the Crystal Serpent mage weapon. The Hallowed and Divine crates do not have any specific equipment but are a great source of high-tier bait and Souls of Light.
What makes it awesome:
- Chaos Fish is used to make Teleportation potions
- Prismite is used to make Lifeforce potions
- The Crystal Serpent is a very powerful weapon that you can get even at the start of Hardmode

1. Underground / Caverns
Spelunking and fishing in one picture
While it doesn't sound as exciting as the previous options, the regular Underground and Cavern layers are the easiest way to farm out the Armored Cavefish. While you CAN get these from other biomes, farming them from non-biome-affected locations restrict your loot table, allowing you to get them easier.
What makes it awesome:
- Armored Cavefish is used to make Endurance Potions
- They're also used to make Seafood Dinner which offers major improvements to all stats.
