Fortnite's Season 5 Gold Bar implementation has added an extra collection opportunity to the game. Now, as you eliminate butt and take names, you can take Gold Bars from every elimination, too. Here's a breakdown of each weekly quest in Fortnite's Chapter 5, Season 1 and how to complete them.

You need Gold Bars to pay for NPC assistance, meds, weapons, and other services from Mending Machines and Quest Boards, but in an eliminate or be-eliminated kind of world, sometimes it can be a little difficult to stop and snag those Gold Bars. Here are some of the best ways to earn Gold Bars in Fortnite.

Crack Open Safes And Cash Registers

By far the best - and potentially safest - way to collect Gold Bars, is to crack open the many Safes scattered around the Fortnite Island. Safes and other currency recepticals, like Cash Registers, are lootable objects that contain high concentrations of Gold Bars.

Cash Registers will often sparkle or shine orange, and even make the same sound as a loot chest, so they're pretty easy to spot. However, Safes don't make their presence as obvious, and well, that's the point.

Safes won't sparkle or make any kind of noise until they are interacted with, so finding them will take careful exploration. There's no real rhyme or reason to where safes will pop up, unlike Cash Registers which show up in storefronts and retailers, so you may come across them in the most bizarre locations.

For example, one of the snowy mountaintops on the Season 5 map has a safe at its peak, surrounded by Loot Chests and mineable shield barrels. This location is an excellent place to obtain gold and other valuable resources to kick off your match.

But beware, high-value locations like this also mean high competition. Best plan your jump so that you get there before anyone else lest you lose more than just a chance at the gold.

When cracking open a Safe, be aware of your surroundings. Safe Cracking makes a tell-tale clicking noise that can give away your location to enemies and other players. Safes also take a while to open, so make sure you're well-guarded and that you're not a sitting duck during the several seconds it takes to crack open a safe.

Loot Vaults

Certain locations around the island have vaults that you can open by eliminating enemies and retrieving a key card or Society Medallion.

Vaults are incredibly valuable because they can contain not just weapons and crafting benches, but loads upon loads of Gold Bars.

Inside each vault, you'll be able to loot Gold Bars from the loot chests inside the vault, but the more lucrative way to get Gold Bars, is to destroy the Gold Bar decorations around the room. Like all other map objects, destroying these piles of Gold Bars will give you materials, which in this case is the shiny bars themselves.

Keep in mind that vaults are usually found in locations that are filled with non-player enemies and bosses for you to eliminate.

When these bosses are eliminated and a player picks up their medallion or key card, that player will emit a golden circle aura around their general location, visible to all other players on the map. If that player is you, you'll have a veritable target on your back.

If you're at a vault location, and you see a golden circle on the map, it's very likely that your competition may have already cracked the vault. Continue exploring at your own risk, and only if you feel confident that you can wipe out your competitors.

Open Every Chest You See

Every Loot Chest you come upon is worth looting. For one thing, looting a certain amount of chests can affect your weekly quest progress and give you additional XP, but all Loot Chests also contain Gold Bars. The more chests that you loot, the more bars you'll earn in the long run.

Even if you don't think you need more guns or ammo, it's worth it to loot the chests for the gold bars and XP alone.

Some chests, like those on the hourglass-shaped auxiliary island, are hidden from view and will require extra mining and/or digging to obtain.

For example, dirt mounds can be mined to reveal chests that have a greater chance of containing high-end loot like epic weapons, shield potions, and lots and lots of Gold Bars.

The hourglass-shaped island is another great place to plan your jump. If you get there before anyone else, you'll snag yourself some seriously useful loot that gives you an edge over the competition.

Complete Bounties

Fortnite: Best Ways To Find Gold (6)

At bounty boards, you can choose to pick up a bounty on another player. Bounty boards are found at locations like train stations or any other building or compound where NPCs and non-player enemies can be found.

Bounty boards will show up on your mini-map as a weapon's scope circle symbol, and sometimes, if you are close to the player you've been tasked with eliminating, a golden radar symbol will show up in their general location.

When you successfully eliminate your target, you'll earn the Gold Bars you were promised at the bounty board.

If your target leaves the match, disconnects, or is eliminated by another player, your bounty will be considered 'Poached' and you won't get the Gold Bar reward. Likewise, if you run out of time to track down and knock out your opponent, your chance at the bounty will likewise expire and the Gold Bars with it.

You can only have one bounty at a time, but you can pick up and complete as many bounties as you want within the duration of the game. You don't really lose anything from picking up bounties, so if you're by a board, you may as well snag one. The end of the game is another great time to snag bounties as you are more likely to encounter targets when the Storm Circles start corralling you together.

Things To Consider About Gold

Fortnite: Best Ways To Find Gold (7)

It's best to keep in mind that while the above methods are the best ways to obtain Gold Bars, you'll have to be careful not to lose them, either.

Your Gold Bar count rolls over from game to game, but it's important to keep in consideration that you drop Gold Bars on elimination. This mechanic can be really useful if you're the one doing the eliminating, but if you're the one being knocked out, you'll lose some of your bar count. You'll have an updated count of your bars at the end of every match.

Additionally, you can spend your bars at quest boards and use them to recruit NPCs or pay for services like activating a rift or paying for a weapon or shield potion. It's worth it to stockpile bars for occasions when you need healing or other services. You never know when your rainy day fund will come in handy!

Oftentimes, you'll find random Gold Bars lying around the map, and this is because most people will make eliminations from some distance away. If you're sure you can get the bars without being eliminated, grab them.

Keep in mind that you can't collect Gold Bars from eliminations unless you've walked straight through them or pressed your collect button when close by. It's all too easy to run through an elimination site and accidentally miss the bars.
