Carrie Fisher Fell For Harrison Ford During Their Secret 3-Month Affair

A few years ago, the late Carrie Fisher was all over the headlines after she revealed details about her secret affair with Harrison Ford, one she kept quiet for 40 years. Fisher was only 19 years old at the time she got her start in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Behind the scenes, Fisher was in a "relationship" with Ford, and she really couldn't believe it herself.

"I looked over at Harrison. A hero's face — a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow," she wrote about Ford at George Lucas' birthday party. "How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me? A tiny part of me felt like I'd won the man lottery, and here I was both counting and spending the money."

"I was shocked by the fact that he fancied me. I was a very insecure girl and had only had one boyfriend. I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him," she revealed. "He was kind."

Fisher gave further details in other interviews, calling it a "three-month one-night stand."

"It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend." The late Fisher added that she felt as though this was a norm in Hollywood back in the day on-set.

"I wasn't raised that way, but when you're on location — this is something I discovered — everything is permitted."

As expected, Ford wasn't exactly excited about Fisher's book and such a massive reveal that took four decades to finally come out.

Fisher and Ford stayed amicable, and even appeared together on the big screen during 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Still, despite their connection, Ford was worried about Fisher discussing their Star Wars affair. Carrie admits that Ford felt like it was an ambush of sorts.

“I wouldn’t have ambushed him like that, but it’s still – no matter if I told him or not, it probably feels like an ambush,” she continued. “It feels like an ambush to me, and I’m the one who wrote it.”

Fisher continued that Ford almost got lawyers implicated as well.

“I said, ‘I found the journals that I kept during the first movie, and I’m probably going to publish them. And he just sort of raised his finger and said, ‘Lawyer!’ Then I said, ‘No, I won’t write anything that you don’t want. I mean, I’ll show it to you before, and you can take anything out that you want taken out. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable’ – which I, of course, have. Unduly comfortable.”

As expected, Ford said very little about the ordeal once it became public.

Out of respect towards Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford declined to comment about their secret relationship. The actor said, “Oh, I don’t know. I don’t know,” he said. “You know, with Carrie’s untimely passing, I don’t really feel that it’s a subject that I want to discuss.”

Ford also gave a simple, “No. I didn’t" when asked if he read Fisher's book.

Following her passing, Ford was one of the many to issue a tribute to his former co-star.

He wrote, “Carrie was one-of-a-kind, brilliant, original. Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life, bravely. My thoughts are with her daughter Billie, her mother Debbie, her brother Todd and her many friends. We will all miss her.”

George Lucas also added a touching tribute of his own.

“Carrie and I have been friends most of our adult lives,” Star Wars creator George Lucas said in a statement. “She was extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a very colorful personality that everyone loved. In Star Wars, she was our great and powerful princess — feisty, wise and full of hope in a role that was more difficult than most people might think. My heart and prayers are with Billie, Debbie and all Carrie’s family, friends and fans. She will be missed by all.”

Sadly, Fisher passed away at the age of 60 in late 2016.
